                                                                                                                                   _

It had been six months since Aang had defeated the Fire Lord and ended the war.  The world was finally seeing peace after one hundred years of war.  Aang knew he had won, but he didn’t feel like for some reason.  There was something always tugging inside of him.
Aang remembered when he had defeated the Fire Lord, all his friend rushing to him.  A dead Azula lying on the floor, and Sokka’s sword dripping with blood.  When Aang found Katara, she hugged him tight and Aang could feel her crying.
That night Zuko was named Fire Lord, and there was a huge party.  Everyone congratulated him, but he felt like he had not won.  He watched Katara across the room she was so graceful and beautiful.
Now six months later he was taking her home, along with Sokka.  They were close to the South Pole, and Aang could see she glad to go back home, but at the same time sad.  When the village was in sight, it was no longer the village Katara and Sokka left behind, but huge city booming with life.
They landed and Hakoda, Bato, Gran Gran, and Pakku greeted them back.  They jumped off and Katara ran giving everyone but Pakku a hug.  Gran Gran forced Sokka into a hug; he broke free and talked to Hakoda and Bato about what he had seen.   Pakku patted Aang on the shoulder and everyone followed in suit.
That night Hakoda throw a huge party and everyone was happy.  Who won’t the war was over and peace was taking its place?  Aang acted happy, but the thought of leaving Katara hurt him.  No one could heal his wound, not even her.  Aang saw Katara get up and go to on to the balcony.
Aang followed her, but she didn’t notice.  She was staring at the moon and the world beyond her home.  Aang could see she was going to miss traveling, and he would miss traveling with her.
     “Katara?” Aang said.
“Oh Aang, it you,” she said relaxing a little.
“What are you doing out here?”
“Thinking about our adventures together.  They’re ending, aren’t they?”
     “Sadly, yes.”
“Aang, I don’t want them to.”
“Me too.  Everything has to end sometime around.”
“Yeah, but why does it have to be nom?!”
     “I don’t know.”
Katara leaned on the railing; she faced the ocean and the wind blow through her hair.  Aang leaned on the railing too, his back to the ocean facing Katara’s home.  His hand fell on top of hers and they pulled their hands away blushing.
     “Sorry.”  Aang said.
     “It’s ok.”  Katara said back.
     “Aang?”
     “Yeah.”
     “Please don’t go.”
     “Katara, I have to.”
“No you don’t!  Please Aang don’t leave me.”  Katara stared to cry.
Aang was shocked to hear that, and he pulled her close comforting her.  He didn’t want to let go, but he knew he would have to sometime.
“Katara, you remember before we invaded the Fire Nation the first time?  How I didn’t sleep and was having crazy daydreams?”
“Yeah Aang, you acted all weird.”
“Remember the one I told you was about living under water?”
     “Yeah, it sounded neat.”
“It wasn’t about living under water.”
     “Aang what are you saying?”
“I’m saying this is what my dream was about.”
Aang kissed her lightly on the lips, shocking her.  But before Aang could do anything Katara kissed him back.  She wrapped her arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Aang, what are we doing?” Katara asked after they pulled away.
“What our hearts have been telling us to do for a long time.”
“So that’s what your dream was about?”
     “Yeah pretty much.”
“Aang why didn’t you tell me?”
“I don’t know, because we were friends.”
     “Aang we’re more than friends.”
     “I know that now.”
     “I love you.”
     “I love you too.”
They kissed deeply and passionately, not caring about the world or the party.
“Aang, I want to go with you.”
“But don’t you have to train the other waterbenders.”
     “No, Master Pakku is staying.”
“Really, that’s great so then you can come!”
They kissed again; they were together in their own world.
“Hey Katara, Aang, Dads going to say something.  Come inside and he……a……..r……it.” Sokka said coming outside to get them, and seeing them kiss.  “Um this is weird.”
He quickly turned around heading back inside.  Hakoda sent him a look but Sokka ignored it and toke his seat, shocked.
“You think we should go back inside?” Aang asked when they stopped kissing.
“Yeah they’re probably all worried.” Katara said.
Aang grabbed her hand and together they walked in.  Everyone starred at them, but they didn’t care.  Hakoda started talking and Aang and Katara didn’t listen.  Hakoda asked Aang to say a few words, Aang stood up.
“Thank you to all of you who came and supported me.  I’ll be leaving soon to travel the world again.  For a while I thought I was going by myself, but Katara volunteered to go with me.”  Aang said, he looked Katara who was blushing.  “May the spirits bless our travels and keep us safe.”
Everyone cheered, except Sokka, but he smiled.  Aang sat down, and Katara squeezed his hand tightly, Aang smiled.

                                                       ****  ****  ****

The time came for Katara and Aang to leave, but Sokka managed to get Aang alone.  He pulled a confused Aang into an empty room.  Sokka closed all the widows and locked all the doors.
“Sokka, what are you doing?” Aang asked.
“I just want to talk to you in private.” Sokka said.
     “About what?”
“I don’t know, lover boy.  Maybe the fact that you and Katara are going away.  Alone. Together.”
     “Wait, what?”
“What do you mean by what?  I saw you two kissing the other night.  It wasn’t a kiss on the cheek either, no you two went all out.”
     “You saw that?”
     “Yeah, Aang, I did!”
     “Which one?”
“Which one! WHICH ONE!  You mean you two kissed more than once.  How many times?”
     “Three.”
“THREE!  Aang look, if you do anything to Katara.  I’ll hunt you down and you’ll wish you had to face Ozai again.”
Aang gulped at that, he looked at Sokka.  He knew Sokka was kidding but it still scared him.
“And just because you’re the Avatar and my friend doesn’t mean I’ll show some mercy.  I don’t really think it cool that you guy are together.”
     “Sokka?”
     “Yeah.”
     “C-can I leave?”
“Oh sure, buddy.  We’re done talking.”
Aang walked out of the room a little nervous.  Sokka walked out of the room to go find Katara.  He knew where she was, but he acted like he was just walking around.
“Katara, there you are.” He said.
“Oh, hey Sokka.”  She said still packing her things.
“You almost done packing?”  He asked closing the door be hind him.
    “Yeah, almost.”
“So, you and Aang, traveling, together, alone, just the two of you.”
“Where are you going with this?”
“Katara, if Aang does any thing you don’t like or hurts you, I’ll pound his face in.”
     “You will not.”
     “Yes I will.”
     “Why?”
“Cause you’re my sister.  My little sister, and Aang is……  Well Aang is a guy!  I’m worried about you.’
“Sokka, I’ll be fine.  Besides I’m the one who should worry, you did get to fish hooks in your thumb.”
     “Still!  Aang, is, a, guy.”
     “Aang couldn’t hurt a fly.”
     “He killed the Fire Lord.”
     “And saved the world.”
     “True.”
“Sokka, I’m leaving with Aang no matter what.”
Sokka moved out of the way as Katara stormed out.  There was no stopping her and Sokka knew that.  They were leaving together, alone, much to Sokka’s dismay.

                                                       ****  **** ****

Katara was loading her thing on Appa.  She tied them down tightly.  She was leaving her home behind, but going back to it at the same time.  She was going with Aang and that made her happy.
Aang came and helped her pack up more, with his stuff and supplies.  Sokka and her dad come to wish them good-bye.  Katara jumped down and ran giving them a big hug.
“It’s strange,” Hakoda said.  “You come home only to leave again.”
“Dad, I’m not leaving home, but going home.  Besides Aang and I will visit when ever we’re close by.” Katara said.  “And Sokka don’t do anything stupid.”
“I won’t.” he said hugging her.
Katara could tell Sokka was eying Aang.  When see turned around to get on Appa, Aang looked a little nervous.
“Oh Katara, before you go,” Hakoda said, “you’ll need these.”
He handed her a sleeping bag and an extra coat.  Katara remembered packing everything.
     “What’s this for?” She asked.
     “For Aang.” Hakoda said.
     “ Why?” Aang asked.
“You maybe from the Air Nomads, but you’re the Avatar.”  Hakoda said smiling.  “That, and Bato told me about your ice dodging adventure.”
Katara smiled, Aang seemed somewhat confused.  Sokka practically fell over.
“But he said he didn’t deserve it.  He couldn’t be trusted.”  Sokka pointed out.
“Yes, but he was trusted to end the war.  And it toke bravery and great leadership to do it.  So in a way he earned all the signs of an honorary Water Tribe member.”  Hakoda said.
“What are you saying?” Aang asked.
“Welcome to the Tribe, Aang.”  Hakoda said.
Aang finally caught on and smiled in his big dorky way that Katara loved.  Katara got on Appa quickly packing Aang’s things.  When see was all done, Aang jumped on to Appa’s head.
“See you guys later.” Katara said waving as they toke off.
Both of them were heading into the darkness of the future.  They were together, and that’s all they needed.  Katara watched her old home disappear into the horizon. She watched as her new home toke its place.  The one she never thought she would see, now she was see it with Aang and that’s all that mattered.
Katara would miss home, even though she never left, but Aang wasn’t alone and neither was she.  They flew into the horizon with love that was once a dream.  Now that dream had come true and was shinning brighter then the sun.  They left their worlds behind, all their troubles, and family; they left to find a future.  Together

They are Kataang.

Leaves from the vine,
Falling so slow,
Like fragile tiny cells,
Dripping in the cold,
Little soldier boy,
Come marching home,
Brave soldier boy,
Come marching home

We miss you, Mako.
